I uninstalled/reinstalled LR Classic (v14.0.1), trashing all preferences at the time. I even restart my iMac M3. I'm still unable to build previews for all 5000 images in my catalog. When I instruct LR to build all standard previews I get a progress bar with no progress. Oddly, when I click on a grid square the preview builds. But meanwhile I have a 5000 image catalog with very few previews. Very frustrating. Any help is appreciated.

I'm trying to place a 300+ page .indd file into another .indd file. It appears that I can only do so manually, one page at a time! Holding down the usual modifier keys does nothing, except when I use the Option/Alt key, which places page after page without the ability to control this torrential flow.
Does anyone know of a better way to do this? Is there a script somewhere that I might use?

Success! Restarted my Mac in Safe Mode, which disabled all login items. KBSC problem was gone. After lengthy process of elimination I discovered that Copy 'Em, my trusty Clipboard manager, had a shortcut assigned of Shift+Command+C. Once I disabled that shortcut, my InDesign problem disappeared. Thanks to Steve and James for your efforts.

This has happened before. When working with type in InDesign 19.3, I'm no longer able to invoke Align Center by pressing the default keys (macOS 14.4.1) Shift+Command+C . All other align text commands work as expected, but not Align Center. This problem appeared previously a few years ago, but I have no idea how I solved it.
(PS: Of course I checked Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts, but no problem here. I also checked the Finder Keyboard settings panel and again came up dry.) Scott

When saving PDFs in Acrobat, spaces in file names are now written as %20. I don't think this was always true. Does anyone know how to tell Acrobat to use plain old text spaces instead of writing %20? Thanks!

I checked the OS already. That's not the problem. Why does Spacebar no longer invoke the Hand tool? Do you have this problem, Ton? I also uninstalled and then reinstalled AI but my problem still exists!

Is it just me or has something changed with keyboard shortcuts in AI 2024 (28.1)? When using the Default Set of KBSC pressing the Space Bar no longer invokes the Hand tool as it did for the past 20 years. Also on macOS, Command+Spacebar no longer invokes the Zoom tool. What's going on?

My guess is that your Fresco document is set to render at 72 ppi. Crank it up to 300 ppi and your problem should disappear.

The frame color is a function of the layer the frame occupies. To change the color open the Layers panel and double click the parent layer. An Options dialog will appear. Here you can choose from a choice of colors. Make sure to also use the Show Frame Edges command under the View menu.

Delete preferences and restart your computer and InDesign. And if that alone doesn't solve your problem delete InDesign's cache files.

I need to send to my client a 200 page PDF of her book I'm designing with all hidden characters (spaces, tabs, and paragraph marks) visible. Including Non-Printing Objects when exporting as PDF does not show hidden characters. Short of sending screen shots of all 200 pages, does anyone know of a more efficient way to solve my dilemma? Anything's possible. As per Steve Werner, Adobe does not offer canned design solutions, but rather the tools to create such solutions. Canned logo packages exist, but you get what you pay for (generally). Go on Behance or Dribble or even Fiverr. See what's out there. Do some research. The world is teeming with creatives who can solve your problem. Good luck!

Get your hands on a copy of Michael Murphy's excellent book, "Adobe InDesign CS4 Styles." Although a touch dated, the fundamental use of Styles (Paragraph, Character, Object, Table) remains the same. Your investment in learning and using styles is the most important thing you can do to understanding and getting the most out of InDesign.

The rule of thumb is that chapters should always start on the recto page. Adding a blank or some kind of graphic on the opposite (verso) is a common solution. Of course, rules are made to be broken. If you don't mind starting a chapter on the verso, go right ahead. I won't like it, but I'll never see your book. And even if I did, there are worse things in life, right?

The individual InDesign files in your Book can be renamed however you'd like; Save As or via Windows Explorer/macOS Finder. Once you're done renaming these components, you'll need to relink the original Book documents to their renamed versions. BTW, why are you using the Book feature? Just because you're creating a book, you needn't necessarily build it as a multi-file InDesign Book.
